Set Yourself up for Continuous Harvests with Succession Planting
Quicker growing crops like lettuce, beans, beets, and radishes can be super satisfying when they provide a quick harvest. You can maximize their potential though, by setting yourself up for continuous harvests throughout the year with just a little bit of planning. Don’t think of these crops as a one-and-done like your longer growing crops. With succession planting, you would plan to sow or start them every few weeks, depending on the crop, to ensure that there is another harvestable wave maturing right after each harvest.
Bonus Tip: Sone of these crops have varieties uniquely suited for different seasons. Summer crisp lettuce varieties, for example, are more heat tolerant than many other lettuce varieties. Rotating in these varieties as you approach summer, will not only give you some variation in your crops but also a more successful harvest than keeping with the same throughout the growing season.
